Cuilcagh Mountain Boardwalk

[sp_breadcrumb]

Project Description

In 2014, RTD Crawford supplied the timber used to make the 1.6KM boardwalk at Cuilcagh Mountain, County Fermanagh. The timber was Redwood PEFC Certified and was treated using MicroShades preservative. For this project, roughly 10,000 planks of imported redwood timber were cross cut and treated to exact specification, resulting in one of the longest timber boardwalks in the world.

Since installation, the walkway has attracted thousands of visitors to the mountain, seeking to take in the breath taking views from the summit. Previously, the steep and rough terrain had made it difficult to easily reach the top, so now the stairway makes it a much more enjoyable climb. The design of the walkway means the timber “floats” above the landscape, protecting the earth from erosion from the many walkers.

With such a high volume of people using the walkway on a regular basis, high quality timber preserved using the latest treatment techniques was required for this project, making RTD Crawford the ideal supplier. Give it a go sometime, the overall walking distance is 7.4KM but the views at the top are well worth it!
